Neck pain often results from poor posturing such as leaning forward when gazing at your computer screen, hunching over a work station, reading in bed, bending your neck while texting or twisting your neck while talking on the phone, slouching on your couch while watching T.V.
The neck is made up of seven cervical vertebrae, the spinal nerves come out of holes on each side of these vertebrae providing motor control of your muscles and sensation to your skin. When the nerve roots are compressed this can cause numbness and tingling down your arm and into your hands.
Osteoarthritis can cause the vertebral joints to become worn down resulting in a narrowing between the vertebral space. This can result in pain, muscle spasms, lost mobility, and headaches, as well as paresthesia’s or numbness and tingling.
